Hindmarsh Shire Council Offices
The development of Hindmarsh Council’s corporate offices in Nhill was completed in 2014, and is a sustainably focused precinct which reuses the existing 1960s building. The design was inspired by the local rural vernacular of agricultural sheds and storage silos, with locally sourced materials, including sheet metal locally manufactured for wheat silos, and a glulam timber primary structure to minimise the use of steelwork across the project.
The office accommodates 70 staff, with expansion for up to 100, as well as associated facilities, community use, multi-functional spaces, council chambers, Vic Roads services, meeting and interview rooms. ESD initiatives include bespoke sustainable design items such as earth tubes and underfloor ventilation plenums, thermal stacks, green walls, natural ventilation, passive solar, low VOC materials, locally sourced materials and flexible spaces adaptable to future growth and changing needs of the client.
Fit out and finishes include locally manufactured highest performing low VOC paint, durable finishes for lower maintenance and longevity, Green Star certified modular carpets with 35% recycled content, low formaldehyde substrates, low energy, zoned lighting with motion sensors.
